Enterprise customers were churning because of lack of functionality

Large companies are churning Rippling’s Device Management app because IT admins have a limited ability to control and manage operating system updates on a device fleet managed by Rippling. Policy options are limited, apply fleet wide, and are difficult to use.

Give IT admins the control and visibility they need

The new design will help IT admins have full control and visibility to manage their fleets of devices exactly how they want with greater efficiency and ease. This will reduce churn, improve retention, and help Rippling move upmarket with enterprise customers.

Identifying key jobs-to-be-done

Rippling's mission is to "free smart people to work on hard problems."

Rippling serves a wide range of customers, from startup founders who have no knowledge about IT to enterprise IT admins who crave a powerful tool. However, the team prioritize designing for startup founders because by delivering on the strategy of default simplicity and powerful optional configuration, we can bias the defaults of our product to the busy startup founders while still meeting the needs of the IT admins.

Choose your own adventure

The new design for policy creation provides templates so that startup founders can quickly set configurations with just a few clicks, while still giving IT Admins an option to have full control and manage their fleets of devices exactly how they want.

Quickly monitor fleet progress

The redesigned dashboard provides visibility for upcoming updates and whether their fleets of devices are in compliant with the policies they've created.

Employees are never suprised by updates

IT admins now have the ability to customize how employees are notified of upcoming updates. They have the options to send email notification or notification via Rippling Agent in advanced of the updates so they never get surprised by updates that would interrupt their important work.

Reflection & next steps

This project is currently in development. Next step for this project is to gather user feedbacks after launch and continue iterating. It is also important to monitor business metrics, such as product churn rate and feature adoption rate, to ensure this feature supports business goals.
